thursday product review: sensationail

~finished product~

i havent posted in oh, about 6 months, because i felt a little uninspired and unoriginal.
however, i tried a product yesterday that i really cannot NOT post about.
it's the best thing EVER!

it's called sensationail and it's an at-home gel manicure.

if you have ever gotten a gel manicure, it is basically exactly the same, but at home.

the kit costs $50- $60 and includes everything you need including the LED lamp and one color (each additional color is about $10).

basically, you wipe your nails off with their solution, do one layer of base coat, 2 of the gel color, one of the top coat, and then wipe them off with the solution provided. more in- depth directions are in the kit, but  it is VERY easy! oh, and the second you are done, your nails are COMPLETELY dry!

as far as i can see, the kits are sold at walmart and CVS, but i assume other stores will get on board!

also, I THINK you can use your own color and then just use their gel top coat and LED lamp, but i am not entirely sure! (want to try it)!!

it's been 2 days and my nails are still perfect! my hope is that they at least last through the weekend, but supposedly they should last up to 2 weeks!!

updates to follow- let me know what you think!!

what's for dinner: stuffed portobello mushrooms

after a huge lunch yesterday, at fresh choice in suburbia (seriously, and so good- hadn't been in years) we wanted to still eat dinner, but wanted something quick and healthy. so i made this tasty and hearty recipe last night, just by using ingredients that we already had:

portobello mushrooms
cheese (any kind)
turkey sausage
bread crumbs
olive oil

my man is a tough critic but really liked it! said it didnt even need the added meat ;)

thursday product review: wet and wild nail polish

i never thought that i would buy anything wet and wild after junior high, but recently, i did and am so happy about it!!

i had wanted a new red, but dont wear it often, so after seeing that essie was still $8 (even at wallgreens), i decided to look at the colors wet and wild was offering!!

this color is .99 cents!! i mean, you really cannot go wrong.
they also have a more expensive line which is $1.99.
that was too much for me, so i decided on the .99 cent option and it is as good a nail polish as any opi or essie color i have used.

obviously, they have less of a selection, but for normal colors, at .99 cents (or even $1.99), wet and wild really cant be beat!!

i also went back and got more of a coral-y color called blazed, and i really like it as well!

new nightstands

Until recently, I had been living without a nightstand. Doesn't seem that bad, but it's really annoying to have to put your glasses, water, and phone on the floor next to your bed for three months! Why you ask?

Our bed is pretty big and the previous nightstands were too wide for the room, so I was a good girlfriend and let him have the side with the lone nightstand that fit. Finally, we found nightstands at Pier One, that were thin enough to fit two. Very exciting!

PS- both night stands were put together solely by ME! Oh! AND they were on sale. Happy weekend!

thursday product review: nars pro prime

i love this product!!!
i actually got it for free when i bought nars foundation (which i love too)- review coming soon.
the primer is weightless, smells clean and refreshing, and really smoothes my face well before i put on foundation.
in general, i like primers a lot, feel like they do a lot of good, and i think that i will actually buy this product when the samples runs out!

wet cement

while working from home on friday morning, i was interrupted by the sound of drilling outside my front door. extremely annoyed, i peeked out and saw that men were outside drilling for some reason---- right outside my door. ugh.

a few hours later, i looked to see what they were doing, and they were filling the area with cement! the wheels started turning and i started to think of different things that i could write in the wet cement to "leave my mark." i didnt want to use my name, since it is technically public property, but wanted something cute, unique, and a way to make the area "ours."

i wanted to wait for the cement to dry enough so that i could write something that would stay, but not too dry, so i waited a few hours and went to work. my work of art is below, but sadly a few hours later someone came and had covered it up! so sad!!!

now all i have is this picture, which is a framer, for sure!

friday frugal find- macy's

i got this necklace on major sale at macy's last weekened. i love it! i was never into big chunky neclaces, but like them on everyone else, so decided to go for it! granted, it's a little heavy to wear for hours (ie. at work all day), but its great to jazz up your basic black, which i wear a lot!

until i moved to sf, i kind of HATED macy's. but the macys up here are super nice and big (i think they are based here), so its still not my favorite store, but i will go in from time to time. happy weekend/ birthday weekend for me!

ps- they have a ton on sale at macy's, so go check it out!!

thursday product review: borghese mask

this mask is great! i got is as a part of a birchbox, which i am not longer a member of, but i still got some really good stuff from the service! it really makes my skin tingle and feels like its working! my face is smoother, cleaner, and my poors seem smaller. i will be so sad when it run out! not sure where you can get it in store, but it seems pretty easy to buy online. happy cleansing!

thursday product review: maybelline fit me foundation

i used to use $50- a- bottle lancome foundation, which i really did like, and it lasted at least 6 months, so i felt like it was a good investment. however, a friend of mine urged me to try the maybelline fit makeup line. i guess it is supposed to really match your skin tone.

i tried #110, which is the second lightest i think. i do like it, but im not a true convert yet. it is pretty cheap, but i am not sure they have a color that is really correct for me.

i have been using it for awhile, so it's not BAD, but sometimes i feel as though it is a little too white. it has SPF 18, which i like, but sometimes i feel as though my face is a little greasy? i think i might like more of a matte look. so i think i am still on the lookout for a better product- any ideas??

weekday gourmet dinner

after a quick drink down our hill for happy hour at bottle cap (where i may or may not have gotten tipsy after half a drink), we decided to make a feast! A quick salad, trader joe's roasted potatoes, and a lamb chop completed our gourmet tuesday night dinner! this was literally thrown together in 20 minutes and was really good!

forever 21 friday

its no secret that i love forever.
i mean, its just so great for trendy pieces that you dont want to spend a lot of money on.
and honestly, some of the stuff i buy lasts a long time!
i feel like its really dumb to buy costume-y jewelry anywhere else since if it's fake, its fake, and i might as well spend $3.80 at forever compared to $50 somewhere else.
recently i scored a great pair of earings and really cute bangle at forever (neither are on the site, but still should be there).
happy shopping and happy weekend!

thursday product review: maybelline master shape eyebrow pencil

this is my first post from my phone!

the blogger app is so cool.

so i was killing time at wallgreens the other day and saw they had a lot of make-up that was buy one, get one 1/2 off. i have had eye brow pencils before, but never really used them, and i got the itch to buy one. (i think only because i saw one that looked like it was EXACTLY the color of my hair. so, i bought it (and something else to be revealed at a later date), and i really like it! it is great! does it make that much of a difference? not sure, but i really feel "all put together" when i use it. i will take some pictures next time i am not blogging from bed.

the blog is back!

after a brief hiatus, i am back!

i moved, got a new job, new living situation, new city, new new new.
i am happier than ever and just really needed a break for a little due to all the new-ness.
as a result of my various new situations i have definitely been a little more crafty!

i have had to consolodate my stuff (apparently that happens when you live with a guy), so had to figure out how to keep my makeup together without it taking over the apt.
a few months ago, i saw a great idea for keeping makeup brushes together, and easily accessible.

i just took coffee beans (you could use beads too), filled a small cup, and placed my brushes in. they stand up, are easily found, and the brush handles smell like coffee! mmm
